- Synthetic (polypropylene, polyester): Hardwearing and easy to care for. Polypropylene is abrasion-resistant and channels liquid away quickly, so it dries fast. Practical for the dining area and family living rooms.
- Wool: High comfort and long-lasting with good care. The lanolin it contains repels dirt and dust, wool dampens sound and keeps the room temperature pleasant. A wool rug in a family living room brings noticeably more calm. Delicate wool sometimes requires professional cleaning for heavier stains and does not tolerate strongly alkaline cleaners or bleaching agents.
- Viscose: Silky sheen and a soft feel, but less hardwearing. In heavily trafficked zones it wears more quickly, and direct sunlight bleaches the fibres. Better suited to a quiet living area than a thoroughfare.
